Are the Mets Back?

After a 7 game win streak and a few promising moves at the trade deadline, the Mets have played their way to a gross 0-7 skid to start August. Whether it be the team's biggest bats going cold, shaky late game defense, or pitching that couldn't plug a fuckin mouse hole, the team has seemingly hit rock bottom. Falling 5.5 games from Philadelphia in the NL East going into Tuesday's matchup against Atlanta, the Mets have once again made a playoff push an uphill battle for themselves. Finally, the Mets bats showed up for the entirety of a game as the lineup took turns bending Spencer Strider over the knee for a good spank. Behind early homers from Alvarez, Alonso, and Nimmo, the Mets chased the Braves' starter off the mound before he could record an out in the 5th inning (In a lost season for Atlanta, his struggles have been the most enjoyable to observe from afar). The onslaught continued to give the Mets a much needed win for the first time since 'nam (that's how it feels at least). But let's be honest do we really think this is going to last?
This team has played so inconsistently all year, it was only a matter of time before their glaring weaknesses all came out at once. The list of flaws with this teams could probably take up its own exhibit in Cooperstown: 1) SP can't sniff the 7th inning. 2) Bullpen is overworked and unreliable. 3) The lineup doesn't hit with RISP. And that's just the fuckin tip of the iceberg. Any lifetime Mets fan should agree, we probably won't score 13 runs over the 5 games on the homestand, and can sprinkle in a, backbreaking, bullpen blown loss in the 1 game that they score more than 4 runs. Even though I may be able to finally sleep tonight, this team just won't let me rest. They probably won't make the playoffs, deGrom will lead the Rangers to a World Series, and our all-time home run leader Pete Alonso (Congrats bro) will opt out and sign with the Padres. Just a few months ago it looked like this team was a force to be reckoned with, now its Armageddon. Any responsible Mets fan can see it coming.
