Profar was just banned 80 games for using Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), but here’s some things this may mean about the player. With a positive test result Profar could secretly be a biological woman, he could simply have low fertility rate, or is countering the effects of testicular atrophy (small fella). Profar said he had tested negative 8 times last year and was unaware of the substance which means if Profar actually didn’t take the drug, he might have testicular cancer. hCG is considered an extremely sensitive and specific marker of germ cell testicular tumors and if true, he should seek medical attention immediately.
The drug is included on the banned substance list as an exogenous AAS (Anabolic Androgenic Steroids) as it is used at the end of steroid cycles to maintain the balance of testosterone of estrogen. All you meat head Trenbolone (TREN) users may be familiar with this concept but let’s explain for the real men who don’t cut corners. When on a steroid cycle the testosterone levels increase drastically which causes a hormonal imbalance. Estrogen, though primarily associated with women, plays a vital role in the males fertility specifically maintaining proper function of the reproductive tract and sperm production. At the end of a steroid cycle a user will take a substance like Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to restore this hormonal imbalance. This is one of the reasons you see steroid users with enlarged breasts and leaky teats.
Other notable professional athletes who were caught using this banned substance includes former RedSox cheater Manny Rameriz in 2009 (50 game ban), former NFL player Brian Cushing (4 game ban), and former MMA fighter Dennis Siver (9 month suspension).
